What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical that is found in the Cannabis plant. Cannabis can refer to marijuana or hemp. The Cannabis plant has over 80 different chemicals, which are called cannabinoids. CBD, if it is hemp-derived, is a legal cannabinoid that is most commonly used for epilepsy. It is also used for anxiety, pain, dystonia (a muscle disorder), Parkinson’s disease, Crohn’s disease, and many other conditions.

How is CBD different from THC?

The most notable difference between CBD and THC is the psychoactive effect. While excessive doses of THC can make you feel high, CBD will not. Another major difference is the legality of these chemicals. THC is illegal in most states (and is still federally illegal), while CBD, if it is hemp-derived, is sold legally across the country. Therefore, taking CBD will not cause you to fail any drug screening. Interestingly, CBD that comes from marijuana is illegal. This is true, even though the CBD is exactly the same in hemp as it is in marijuana.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Many people believe that marijuana and hemp are the same and that those words are interchangeable. This common understanding is incorrect. Although both plants are very similar, there are some major differences that should be identified. Marijuana and hemp both belong to the genus Cannabis, but each plant is categorized under a separate species. One of the most notable distinctions between hemp and marijuana is the levels of THC.

The concentration of THC in hemp is less than 0.3% while far more THC is found in marijuana (between 15% and 40%). This is one of the reasons people are more likely to use marijuana for recreation and medical purposes. Hemp, on the other hand, is often used in the industry for the assembly of paper, food products, clothing, oils, and various other applications.
